Jon Ruben confessed to 17 charges at the courthouse on the end of the week

A person who laced sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offences against two children both nine and ten years old.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from that region, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Nevertheless, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, outlined the defendant's actions to the court.

She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.

The man conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".

She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She stated Ruben had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in recently.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about the situation, for good reason.

"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."

The prosecutor explained materials including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the police about his concerns.

She stated Ruben continued to play the "treat game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that point," she added.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The legal representative explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson called the police again.

She explained the defendant then conducted the "treat game" in a space of five children.
